The truth as I know it:

We witness a miracle every time a child enters into life. But those who make their journey home across time & miles, growing within the hearts of those who wait to love them, are carried on the wings of destiny and placed among us by God's very own hands. ~~~ Kristi Larson

Weather Update and Secret Family Recipe

Finally, something to write home about... or write FROM home about, as the case may be!  I know this may seem like nothing to you guys in the far North, but for us, this is the first REAL snow we've had in 8 years.

I tried to get the snow falling in the background.  It's not big flakes, but it's showering down.

Not exactly a pretty photo, but a better perspective on how much we have!

We even have enough snow to make the family favorite... SNOW CREAM!

Do you make Snow Cream?  My husband thinks it's unhealthy to eat snow because of "acid rain".  Bwahahahaha!  I told him there had not been talk of acid rain since 1976, but his mom told him that 30 years ago and he's still convinced that eating snow will kill you!

We fill a bowl with snow, mix in a healthy heaping portion of sugar and a little milk and a little coffee creamer and voila.... snow cream.  Better than any ice cream you ever tasted.  I have made one health modification to the family recipe... my mom used to mix in a raw egg and vanilla, but I think it's probably best that my kids don't eat the raw egg now and it grosses me out anyway.  Plus my creamer is French Vanilla so you get the thickness and flavor in one fell swoop.  (Is it "fell" or "fail"?)

Liam has gone to visit a friend.  Jack too.  Connor is across the street playing.  Meg and I are in sweats on the couch, eating snow cream, listening to the fire crackle and watching our 107th episode of Max and Ruby.  (Where are their parents, by the way?  Is this elementary school child rabbit really raising her younger brother?  Why aren't they living with their grandmother, who clearly loves them?  Why hasn't anyone called the authorities?  Does anyone else think about these things when they watch cartoons?  Like why has Caillou's mom been pregnant for 20 years?  And why does Caillou's dad always wear a sweater and long pants, even when Caillous is in shorts and a T-shirt?  :)  Oh no, the cabin fever has already driven me over the edge.....

Caillou's mom is pregnant? I thought she was just frumpy. I have always wondered why Dora's parents let her run around over mountains, lakes, and forests (not to mention the whole world) with a monkey and no parental supervision whatsoever.

Anyway, thanks for the recipe. We might actually get to use it today!

Oh and I don't make snow cream...that is only what really GREAT mommies do. I am totally not in that league yet. Back to Max and Ruby..I really have wondered the same things about them. Caillou is such a whiner I won't let me kids watch him.

I just want Caillou to stop whining. It's incessant. And I'm totally with you on Max & Ruby. Ruby is the bossiest rabbit/girl/sister/guardian ever to grace children's programming. Maybe the mom is so much worse that PBS didn't think we could handle it. Maybe, right?

Our snow started at 5:15pm...we are in the 8-15 inches category for the forecast...SERIOUSLY???? Ugh! I wanna be somewhere tropical! Thanks for the reminder - I just set a large bowl out to collect snow in (I mean JC did).

Enjoy your snow!

Oh my gosh! Thanks for the laugh!! I have actually asked that question too. Where the heck are the parents? That Max is naughty. He listens about as well as my Caroline! lol
Caillou....NOOOOOOOOO. Can't stand that kid. He is like 4 but acts like he is 2. He is whiny and bald like a MUCH younger child. I avoid that show like the plague.
I like Little Bear. It is the least offensive to my ears. hee hee

Ok I live in the far north that you speak of and I have NEVER had snow cream. AND to top it off I work for your coffee creamer company and have a huge stock of free creamer - so why am I not making this? :) I am so going to have to try it.

And is it just me or is DJ Lets Rock of Yo Gabba Gabba rather creeper-ish. And how when it takes Dora 20 minutes to get to the end of her journey can she be home in 5 seconds? Man, I think you've seriously opened a can here.

What we wouldn't give for a good snow day in Hong Kong!

You know when you try to analyze kid's tv you are clearly teetering on the brink of insanity! No good will ever come of it.

Frozen water falling out of the sky is just not natural in the first place and then to eat it! I am with your husband on this one. Hopefully there are no industrial plants anywhere near.

Did you notice that Max and Ruby have no parents?I have never seen them on the show. Just a strange thing. these kids at their house all the time by themselves.

I made the mistake of showing Ana that I can get Dora on Netflix Live. So now we watch hours and hours of Dora. She never seems to get bored of the same show multiple times too.

We OD on snow cream any chance we get! My mom always tells us were going to be poisoned, too! Still alive!! :))
